The October Revolution was a series of waves of strikes, declarations of independence, and revolts over the   Conservative-controlled   Second Spanish Republicball. All over   Spain the   socialist workers went on strike.

    The start of the revolution

In Asturias, the miners rose up on the 5th of October of 1934, and declared the Republic of Miners and Peasants of Asturias. They had the support of the   PSOE (Socialists), the   UGT (Anarcho-syndicalists),   CNT (Anarchists), and the   PCE (Communist Party of Spain).

    The Asturian Revolution

    Northern Front

The   Trubia (  Oviedo/  Grado), La Vega (  Oviedo) and   Mieres Weapons Factories are sacked by the   revolutionaries between the 5th and 10th of October, the revolutionaries advance towards   Oviedo. In   Ollionegro a battle occurs between the Second Spanish Republicball and the   revolutionaries, which ends in a victory of the   last.

    Southern Front

The miners rose up in Vega del Rey (Pola de Lena, South Asturias) and begin preparations to attack in the afternoon the town of   Camponares, 5 kilometers away.

    Oviedo falls

On the 11th of October the last Spanish Forces surrender in   Oviedo. The cities of Gijón ( Gijónball) and Avilés (  Avilesball had fallen to the revolutionaries (but some parts of  Gijón were still standing). The combat in Oviedo took place in the   School and Theatre of   Campoamor,   the cathedral of Oviedo,   the arms factory of La Vega (  previously mentioned),   the Covadonga Hotel,   the University,   the Bullring of Oviedo,   the Diputación Building,   the Hospicio,   the water reserve and   the Slaughterhouse.

    The final stand

The coronel   Juan Yagüe Blanco landed in the port of  Gijón ( el musel),   José Solchaga Zala entered from   Cantabria,   Eduardo López Ochoa from Galicia and coronel Carlos Bosch Bosch from   Castille entered the Asturian region with the purpose of crushing the revolt. All were under the command of who would become the caudillo of   Spain:   Francisco Franco, general of the army and Manuel Goded from Madrid. Bosch entered from the south but never reached Oviedo, instead got stuck in the south. Ochoa and Yagüe entered   Oviedo and retook the   city in the name of the   Second Spanish Republicball

Langreo,   Avilés,   Gijón,   Pola de Siero,   Oviedo,   Grado,   Mieres... all of the territory the   revolution had ever stepped foot on was now covered in   Castilian,   Galician,   Catalan and most importantly   Asturian blood.
